Il y a 60 ans prenait l'affiche Nothing but a Man de Michael Roemer, un film magnifique sur la difficulté d'être Noir aux États-Unis. Le long métrage n'a malheureusement jamais eu l'existence qu'il méritait et est tombé dans l'oubli. En le redécouvrant, on est happé par sa modernité, son propos puissant, sa trame narrative déchirante et sa magnifique photographie en noir et blanc Voilà un jalon important du cinéma indépendant américain. ****
